Lesson Title - Book Bags
Contributor - Christina Blankenship
Grade Level - Kindergarten
Essential Reading Element - Reading and Parental Involvement
Objectives - The student will read a book that they are already familiar with to his/her parents.
Procedure - Each student will have a ziplock bag with their name on it which will contain a book to be read at home to their parents. The book will have already been read in class to the teacher. This will allow the student to be familiar with the book and to feel successful and proud of his/her accomplishments as well as allow the parent to see the child's progression or where their child may need help.
Implementation - The students enjoy being able to take home their books and read to their parents. The parent fills out a book log and signs ensuring that the book has been read to them by the child. As I go into the second semester and put more emphasis on reading and we begin check out in the library I will come up with a reward system for those students who consistently complete their reading activity with their parents.
