Lesson Title -   Choral Reading Station

Contributor -  Kimberly McKiernan

Grade Level -  kindergarten

Essential Reading Element -  Phonics

Objective(s) - students will become familiar with poetry and the way it flows and moves as it is read.

Procedure -  On Mondays, have a new poem written on chart paper.  I will start the year off with nursery rhymes.  Read the poem to the students having them listen (even if they know it).  The second time through point to the words as you read the poem again.  The third time have the students "read" it with you as you point to the words.  After this reading have students come up and point to words that they know.  I also have those who can't recognize words come up and point to letters they know.  On the following day we will re read the poem having a student pointing to the words.  On Wednesday, we will read it again as we did on Tuesday but I will give them a copy of the poem on a sheet of paper.  They will decorate the page and put it in their poetry notebook.  We will read it again on Thursday and Friday and we will share how we decorated the page.  On Fridays the student will take his/her poetry notebook home to share with their family.

Implementation -  This will be implemented the first weeks of school.
