Workshop Goal

This workshop is designed to motivate all students to become successful and purposeful readers. You will learn and create “hooks” that will “lure” student interest and spice up your literacy instruction while attending to the research based requirements that support the No Child Left Behind Act.

 

Workshop Objectives

  1. Participants will understand the Five Essential Elements of Reading as they are defined in NCLBA and a balanced literacy program.
  2. Participants will utilize the Five Elements of Reading to include poetry, classroom libraries, and picture books in their reading curriculum.
  3. Participants will have a knowledge of the research that supports utilizing poetry, classroom libraries, and picture books in their reading curriculum.
  4. Participants will differentiate their reading instruction with meaningful and relevant literacy centers.

     

  5. Participants will integrate technology into their teaching of the Five Elements of Reading.
  6. Participants will use and collaborate with peers to develop our Literacy Hooks Wiki.

     

 

Workshop Requirements

Each person will receive 30 credit hours after…

-attending all meetings (total 24 hours)

-completing required documentation of lessons taught (total of 6 lessons)

-participating in collaborative on-line documentation of the workshop goals

-reading six articles and adding annotations with reflection on their classroom practice to the class bibliography (total of 6 hours)
