Lesson Title - Creating and Performing Found Poetry

Objective(s) - 

• Students will select favorite words
  or phrases from a children’s story.
• Students will select a favorite page
  or passage from a book.
• Students will perform their piece of
  the poem in front of others. 

Procedure -  

• Choose a children's book to read aloud to the class.
• From the selected book, the teacher will create a found poem with the class.
• Students will then work in small groups, each with their own copy of the book.  They will use the Student Writing Sheet to come up with their favorite words, phrases or sentences from the book. They will then use these words, phrases, or sentences to creat a line for the Found Poem.
• At the end of the week (or conclusion of centers for all students), teacher and students will combine all student work to create a Class Found Poem.  The class will then perform the poem for another first grade class.

Implementation -  Whole group and small groups.
