Objective(s) - Students will demonstrate understanding of personification through by writing their own poem
Procedure - Explain and give examples of personification. (A personification poem means that the poem is about an object that is being discribed as a person! For example, 'The flowers were dancing in the light wind,' clearly everyone knows flowers cant dance, however people or a person can, so it have been described as a person.) Read the poem "Thoughts of a Backpack" from our Literacy Hooks Poetry Handouts.
Ask: "Who's talking? Does this object usually talk? Why not?"
Ask: "If you were a backpack, might you feel the same way? Why? What are some things you might say to your owner?"
Implementation - This activity will be demonstrated in whole group and utilized during Literacy Centers.
