Lesson Title - Making Poetry Notebooks

Essential Reading Element - Vocabulary
Objectives - To recognize high frequency words as well as new vocabulary
Procedure - A new poem will be introduced and added to the poetry notebook.
The students will then highlight words that they recognize as well as new vocabulary that was learned within the poem.
As the year progresses the students will copy the poem and illustrate into the notebook.
Implementation - I have been exposing my Kindergarteners to new forms of poetry. We recite the poems together and then the children have the opportunity to draw a picture that matches something they have heard in the poem. My students love this it engages them and makes learning words fun for them. I will continue to implement poetry notebooks in my classroom and expand on the process.
