Lesson Title - Poetry Voices Center- Squirell and Acorn

Contributor - Teri DeLaney

Grade Level - 4th

Essential Reading Element - fluency

Objective(s)Students will build fluency by reading repeatedly in a different voice.

Procedure Students will read Squirrell and Acorn by Beverly McLoughland independently, then to a partner. They will work together to read the entire thing correctly to one another in a normal voice in less than 60 seconds.  Once this goal has been reached they alternate reading to one another in a different voice.  Each partner should try each voice. (Examples-country, street, rap, valley girl, whiney, american idol, whisper, oper, etc.)

Implementation4th graders should enjoy variety in their repeated readings, also may be more successful with a reward to meeting a goal.
