Objective(s) – Students will recognize that words are made up of sounds.
Procedure - Read Sheep in a Jeep by Nancy Shaw. Review onsets and rimes. Practice several words clapping for the onset and slapping your thighs for the rime. Practice with CAT and other words. Tell students that they are going to listen to rhyming words in a story. After listening to the story again students can help make a list of the rhyming words on chart paper. Then words that belong to a word family can be highlighted in 1 color. After all the words are highlighted by a color for each word family, read all of the words in each family aloud.
Implementation - Students had fun making a list of the rhyming words from the story and reading each set of words.
