Lesson Title - Creating a Story Mobile in a First Grade Classroom

Essential Reading Element - Comprehension

 

Objective(s) - Students will demonstrate Story Comprehension through art and sequence on a paper towel tube mobile.

 

Materials -

  • Construction paper shapes (squares, rectangles, circles, triangles)
  • white drawing paper
  • yarn
  • cardboard paper towel tube
  • scissors
  • glue
  • crayons or markers

 

Procedure

 

  • Draw pictures or events from your story on the white paper.
  • Color the pictures.
  • Mount each one on a construction-paper shape.
  • Punch a hole at the top of each shape.
  • Tie a piece of yarn to each one.
  • Make four slits in the cardboard tube as illustrated.
  • Force the yarn through the slit and secure it with a knot.
  • Hang your mobile by another piece of yarn, tied at the center.
 
  

 

 

Implementation -  This activity will be used during Literacy Centers.
