Classroom Libraries

Classroom Libraries and the Five Elements of Reading

How can classroom libraries enhance Fluency instruction?

Lessons for Primary students

1. Spotlight on... (C. Laney)

Objective - Students will develop more confidence and fluency through repeated readings of familiar stories

Summary - Using a small flashlight and engaging big books (ex.:  Mr. Grump, Monday, Monday) that contain repitition, rhyme, and rhythm, a child builds confidence and fluency by rereading the book with the flashlight as the pointer.

Implementation - The flashlight is the draw here!  With clear guidelines for its' use, they do have fun rereading the stories and get in some much needed fluency practice.  Have some extra batteries on hand.
