Contributor – Anne Draper

Grade Level – 4th – 6th grade

Essential Reading Element - Poetry and Classroom Centers

Objective(s) – Students will create and illustrate their own monster poem.

Procedure – Copies of Frankenstein Makes a Sandwich will be placed in the center for the students to read and familiarize themselves with samples of the monster poems. Have students create their own monster and write a short poem about it.  Once the monster is created have them draw a picture.

Implementation – Set up this center in time for Halloween and use the same idea for Frankenstein Takes the Cake at other times during the year.  This lesson worked very well.  The students were enthusiastic about drawing their own monsters and writing poems.
