Activities for Parental Involvement and Intermediate students
1. Schoolnotes.com (Lacy Peterson & Angie McLeod)
Objective - Students will learn to be responsible for studying vocabulary words at home. They will practice the definitions of weekly vocabulary words with parents and practice using the words in sentences to understand them better.
Summary - We send home homework packets on Mondays that include the spelling and vocabulary words for the week. We also post them on www.schoolnotes.com (a free website for teachers to use) and students can practice the vocabulary words from home on electronic flashcards through the website. Parents also have access to printing off newsletters and the weekly words, in case the homework packet gets left at school or lost. They can help keep their child accountable for homework when the student comes home and says "I don't have any homework."
Implementation - The parents love this website and they constantly are viewing it and emailing us through it with questions. It is a great way for us as teachers to communicate with parents, and it gives them a way to help out at home. We would recommend you try this website out.
